Terms of service

Last updated: 21 April 2026

1. What Bookt is

Bookt is an online marketplace that introduces customers looking for creative services (photography, videography, DJ) to self-employed professionals in the UK. We facilitate quoting, messaging and deposit collection. We are not the provider of the creative services themselves and do not employ the pros listed on the platform.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. Give accurate information — misrepresenting identity, qualifications or location is grounds for removal.

3. Fees

  • Pros pay a 7.5% commission on the total value of each confirmed booking. The commission is deducted automatically from the deposit.
  • Customers pay a 7.5% service fee on top of the quoted price. This fee is charged at deposit time.
  • There is no subscription, listing fee or pay-to-be-promoted tier.
  • Stripe processing fees apply on all card payments and are deducted by Stripe directly.

4. Deposits and the remainder

A booking is confirmed when the customer pays a 25% deposit through Stripe. Bookt holds the deposit in escrow until the event has been delivered. Once the pro marks the booking as done and the customer confirms, the deposit is released to the pro's connected Stripe account (minus our 7.5% commission). If the customer reports a problem instead, the deposit is held and our team will review before any payout.

The remaining 75% of the job price is settled directly between the customer and the pro, at a time and method they agree (typically on or after the event day). Bookt takes no responsibility for the collection of that remaining balance — it is a contract between the two parties.

5. Cancellations and refunds

Customer cancellations are non-refundable. Once a customer has paid a deposit, the pro has blocked the date and turned away other work. If the customer cancels for any reason — including a change of plans, illness, or a venue issue — the deposit is retained and treated as compensation for the pro's held date. This is disclosed at checkout before any payment is taken.

Pro cancellations are fully refunded. If the pro cancels a confirmed booking for any reason, the customer receives a full refund of the deposit and service fee automatically via Stripe. Repeat cancellations by a pro may result in suspension from the platform.

Bookings that haven't yet had a deposit paid (“pending deposit”) can be cancelled by either party at any time with no charge.

6. Messaging and contact details

All communication must happen through the Bookt messaging system until a booking is confirmed. Sharing phone numbers, email addresses, social handles or links to external contact methods before the deposit is paid is a breach of these terms — messages are automatically masked and repeat offenders can be removed.

Once the deposit clears, contact details are shared between customer and pro so they can coordinate the job.

7. Reviews

Customers can leave a rating and written review after the event date. Reviews must be honest and relate to the service provided. We may remove reviews that contain abusive content, personal data, or are clearly fake.

8. Pros' responsibilities

  • Carry any insurance appropriate for your work (e.g. public liability).
  • Register as self-employed or a limited company with HMRC and handle your own tax.
  • Turn up, on time, with the equipment you quoted for.
  • Do not subcontract a booking without the customer's agreement.

9. Prohibited conduct

  • Fraud, misrepresentation, or using the platform to bypass our fees.
  • Harassment or discrimination of any kind against other users.
  • Posting illegal, defamatory or copyrighted content you don't own.
  • Automated scraping of profiles, quotes or messages.

We can suspend or remove accounts that breach these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.

10. Liability

Bookt provides the marketplace “as is”. We don't guarantee a particular volume of leads to pros or the quality/availability of a specific pro to a customer. Our liability in relation to any single booking is limited to the fees Bookt actually received from that booking. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes

We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Material changes will be announced to logged-in users by email. Continued use of Bookt after a change means you accept the new terms.
